Citrus Trees

A walk in the plain of Chania – Platanias can convince anyone that Crete can produce everything and be self-sufficient.

Citrus and avocados are some typical products of the plain, with the shift to this particular crop being almost universal.

And yet... oranges are the ones that have marked the childhood years of every citizen of the plain.

Juicy, fragrant and sweet... like memories.

But what makes them unique? The special micro-climate, the atmospheric humidity, great sunshine all throughout the year and irrigation from the waters of the White Mountains.

Exports are fewer in recent years, however, Chania oranges are still available in the Greek market.
